A beautifully made modern violin begins with years of detailed study of the master form of the Antonius Stradivarius violin. At Fein Violins, a majority of our violins are based on the famous "Hochstein" Antonius Stradivarius violin, made in Cremona, Italy, circa 1715, and conservatively valued at more than $1,500,000. The Antonius Stradivarius violin shop was structured so that six to ten of his apprentices and master artisans worked precisely to his violin forms. Stradivarius then did all of the finishing work, ensuring the highest quality in every one of his fine violins. It is this same system that we use today in the creation of each of our handmade, fine violins, crafted in our European partner violin making workshop, Atelier Cremone, and the workshops of D. Albert and Francois Costa. Our fine violins are then finished in our shop in Saint Paul, Minnesota, by our own expert violin maker, Andrew Fein. Each of the handmade violins for sale at Fein Violins has been meticulously cut from aged, high-altitude spruce in the top of the violin; and rare, high-altitude, aged maple in the violin's back, sides, and neck. The violin's fingerboard is cut from premium-quality black ebony. We also ensure that the violin's pegs, chin rest, and tailpiece match the beauty of the violin, through the utilization of fine quality fittings. All of the employees on staff at Fein Violins are musicians, thus, each of the fine violins for sale are played before they are given to the customers.
